Montessori Development and Observation Resources for Classroom and Unschooling Use

Montessori Curriculum for all Learners

This section is where you will find specific resources to help you better know a child or learner for whom you are responsible. We use “learner” because it is not age specific and it is great reminder of the always active role this person plays in the learning system – or the triangle of Montessori education. An essential aspect of this approach is that the adult is responsible for putting the Montessori curriculum on the shelves of the learning environment. To know how to do that well, the adult must understand the learner's general needs and individual needs. Learning about general needs includes the study of child development and the learning preferences children typically have at different ages.  Helps for that study will be here. To understand the individual needs of a child, or any learner, it is essential to develop awareness skills and specific techniques to observe and record what you notice. Observation helps will also be here, as well as anything else we believe will help you better understand the learners in your care. For those interested in unschooling, this section can help you prepare to be an active support to your children while respecting their own inner-directed approach to learning.
